About & life story
Service, water, friendship, and family.
John Richard Fair died at home on May 14, 2026, with Anne, his devoted wife and best friend of 46 years, holding him close after a long battle with lung disease.
He is lovingly remembered by Anne; his step-son Jeffrey Baker (Ann); step-daughter Jennifer Baker; daughters Robin Fair and Sarah Fair; brother Casey Fair; grandchildren Riley and Hudson Baker; sisters-in-law Lynda Supryka, Grace O'Dowd, and Wendy Fair; brother-in-law Jim Nawrot; niece Kristine Fair (John); and dear friends Gary and Tammy O'Neil and Anna and Bob Kerr.
John was born in Oshawa on January 28, 1946, to Jack and Flora Fair. He was predeceased by his parents; his brother Michael; sisters Marylee, Marcia, and infant Judy; son-in-law Jason Popovich; brothers-in-law Eugene Supryka and Dennis O'Dowd; and niece Merridee Fair.
He retired as a Captain with the Oshawa Fire Department after 32 years of service. Later, John and Anne made their home in Hay Bay, Napanee, where he spent many good hours on the water fishing and bringing home pickerel. He also became part of Napanee Golf and Country Club, enjoying the course and friendships there for 27 years.
John will be missed by his golfing companions, his wider circle of friends, and the Amigos, the group with whom he and Anne travelled and shared many Florida winters.
The family is grateful to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Lennox and Addington General Hospital; to Dr. Koester for home visits and compassion; and to the nurses who cared for John at home.
Aquamation has taken place. In keeping with John's wishes, there will be no funeral. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lennox and Addington General Hospital Foundation or the Napanee Salvation Army.
